There
are so many things in this world that are already known and many others that
are yet to be known. Whatever is known to many (that is, common people)
is not a secret, however, if known to just one person or a group of persons
working sincerely together, it’s a secret. Let’s take Coca-Cola for example. There
are a number of people working together as a company to produce Coca-Cola. On the
basis of the company’s policy and confidentiality agreement, each and all of
these people working in the company ensures that the core secret beyond their
production isn’t revealed. Anyway, whatever is kept a secret is in exclusive
custody of a person or group of persons working together.
Secret
is a knowledge not known or discovered by the common people. Since secrets are
knowledge, man is given an explicit privilege to know and/or experience them. Moreover,
secrets are of two types. They are: divine secrets and human secrets. Each of
these secret categorization is of different sources. Divine secrets are sourced
from the wisdom of God while human secrets are sourced from earthly wisdom or
called the wisdom of this world. The scriptures illustrated and said so many
things about each of these sources of secret types.
Let’s
go back a bit into the occurrences and scenarios in the garden of Eden. First of
all, we need to establish the truth that God Himself is the source of all knowledge.
The devil, formerly called Lucifer or the Son of the Morning spent a number of ages
with God before he was deranked and banished from being in heaven. His lustful
quest to be like the Most High made him have a form of knowledge outside of
God. This form of knowledge is
represented on earth as the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
This
particular tree was kept secret from man, not in terms of accessibility but necessarily
and firstly in terms of experience (experiential knowledge). Man eventually partook of that tree. Man (Adam
and Eve) in his wisdom hid himself from the presence of the All Seeing One.
Genesis 3:8 said “and they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the
garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from
the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.” On the basis
of the new type of knowledge man had partaken of, he thought it wise to hide. He
thought he could make it a secret.
The
point I’m driving at is that, it is only the wisdom of this world that deceives
us to thinking that we have and can do things hidden from the All Seeing One. The
interesting story in the garden was when the All Knowing and Seeing One came
like mere man to ask Adam where he was and if he had eaten from the forbidden
tree. Rather than admitting to have done
wrong, man yet went further playing smart by the wisdom of this world. Man
suffered dearly for it. I personally believe that man suffered to this extent not
primarily because he sinned but because he refused to admit what he has done.
One
of the many things the wisdom of this world has supposedly helped man with is
to shift blame. You remember what Adam eventually said to God when he showed up
before Him? “And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me,
she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.” He shifted the blame, and she
likewise shifted the blame on the serpent. None among Adam nor Eve admitted
their wrongs. But excuse me, didn’t Adam say and I did eat? Was he not the
one that collected the fruit from the wife and ate? Was it forced into his
mouth?
Coming
back to the story of Lucifer. You remember we already establish the fact that
he was with God for ages before being deranked and banished? He was actually in
close relationship with God as seen in Ezekiel 28:12-18.
Saying “12 Son of man, take up a
lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD;
Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.
13
Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy
covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the
jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship
of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast
created.
14
Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast
upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the
stones of fire.
15
Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till
iniquity was found in thee.
16
By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with
violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of
the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst
of the stones of fire.
17
Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom
by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee
before kings, that they may behold thee.
18
Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the
iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of
thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in
the sight of all them that behold thee.”
And
Isaiah 14:12-15 says “12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O
Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst
weaken the nations!
13
For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my
throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the
congregation, in the sides of the north:
14
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
15
Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.”
I had
and needed to bother you with these long verses so as to establish a truth. And
the truth is that nothing is truly hidden from God neither on earth nor in
heaven. The devil was thinking in his heart and he hasn’t even executed his
plans before his intentions were exposed and rewarded.
As
regards the two sources of secrets, 1 Corinthians 1: 18-28 and chapter 2 verse 6-16
said few things but so much in those verses. But we will only pick point just
few verses.
“25
Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is
stronger than men.
27
But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and
God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are
mighty;
28
And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen,
yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are.
7
But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which
God ordained before the world unto our glory:
9
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered
into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love
him.
10
But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth
all things, yea, the deep things of God.
11
For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in
him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.”
Things to note from the last above verses are:
- The wisdom of God is divine while the wisdom of this world is sensual (James 3:15).
- The wisdom of God is the only true secret not known to anyone except such being is given the permission.
- None of man’s deed (be it governmental, territorial, personal or cooperately and others) is truly hidden from God. It might be hidden from mortal man but not before God and His angels.
- The eyes of the Lord behold all things to the fullest. It includes source, motive, result, willingness, level of unity and others.
- The wisdom of this world is nothing to be compared with the wisdom of God.
- The very foolish things before supposedly wise men confounds and dumbfounds them. That’s why the supposedly foolishness of God out rightly supersedes the ultimate wisdom of this world.
Never
forget that the wisdom of this world is the perverse version and the extreme
opposite of the wisdom of God. The wisdom of God remains forever while the
wisdom of this world has its expiry date, no manner how supposedly long. The
wisdom of this world can never glory before God, because it’s proud and self
seeking.
These
next few verses have a very strong connection.
“Proverbs
9:10-The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the
holy is understanding.
Psalms
25:14-The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them
his covenant.
1
Corinthians 2:9-But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither
have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them
that love him.”
Whoever
fears the Lord, loves the Lord. Because such a person will always want to
please the Lord. And he who loves the Lord must greatly fear/reverence the
Lord. Total dislike and disregard the wisdom of this world and earnestly seek after
the wisdom of God.
Acts
1: 7 and Matthew 24:36 respectfully says “and he said unto them, It is
not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his
own power.”
“But
of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my
Father only.”
