Levels in God's Blessedness

 

Right from the creation account, we realized that it’s a blessing to proceed and associate with the Creator. After “God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.  And God blessed them, saying, be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.” The blessedness of God extends to lower creatures. Even after God created man on the fifth day, He pronounced a blessing upon mankind saying, “and God blessed them, and God said unto them, be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”

The level of God’s blessedness we speak of, goes beyond the generic blessing pronounced on humanity as a whole. Although, this generic blessing is actually part but there are likewise many other levels of God’s blessedness. In actualizing, receiving and mostly firstly spiritually experiencing these other blessings before a physical experience, one has to positional align oneself to each and every one of the terms and conditions. And to positional align oneself to these blessings, it requires an intimate relationship with one’s Maker. Most of God’s blessings are firstly and/or mostly spiritual before an equivalent and corresponding physical blessing if any. Not all of God’s blessings are strictly visible. Although, many are both firstly invisible and visible thereafter.

The very first blessedness of God on the pathway into an intimate relationship is seen in Psalms 32:1 & 2 and Romans 4:6-8 respectively says “blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.” And “even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.” This first blessedness is necessary because it opens the gateway and opportunity to other blessings.

Another layer of God’s blessing is recorded in Psalms 1:1 & 2 says “blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.” In other to allow further higher blessings to be received, this blessing criteria must be met and kept. In one of John the Baptist’s conversation with the Pharisees and Sadducees, he said “bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance.” There is this necessity that every child of God walks in the likeness of his/her Father. Without this and others of such, there is no access to many other available blessings.

There is a number of blessedness the very One that restored our relationship with God said in Matthew 5:3-12. He gave a plain and clear positional alignment to ascertain these blessings. These verses read

“ ³blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

 ⁴ Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

 ⁵ Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

 ⁶ Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

 ⁷ Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

 ⁸ Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

 ⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

¹⁰ Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

 ¹¹ Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

 ¹² Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.”

Let’s take some time to see the reasons for these blessings. The two major reasons most of these blessings are put in place is firstly so that man can relate, associate, walk and work with God and secondly so that we can likewise perfectly express God’s very nature. Considering the above blessings and many others, we will realize that they are centered on being the people of God. Although, there some other blessings are the resultant effect of being God’s person(s) and keeping at being at it. Scriptures like Revelation 14:13 and 20:6 that respectively says that “and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”  And “blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.”

Permit me to say a few things about the blessedness in verse 10 to 12 of Matthew 5. We might not pay close attention to this blessedness. These verses talk about the blessed privilege of exhibiting God’s nature and the blessed reward for exhibiting God’s attribute. It’s a great privilege to be persecuted for Christ’s sake. One of the major controversies in the church today is having a carnal and a self-centered meaning of biblical terminologies. Many of us have defined many if not most of God’s blessings to significantly and essentially implied them to be physical. This isn’t so. God is Spirit, which implies that God’s blessings might not firstly be physical.

There are so many other blessings that God promises us in the bible, in the likes of Psalms 24:5, Galatians 3:14, Revelation 1:3 and many others.
